The Boerne Book Festival takes place Saturday, October 7, on Boerne’s beautiful Hill Country Mile with a celebration of all things literary, including author discussion panels, childrens’ activities and more.
As always, the festival focuses on Texas and its rich history. The Writers’ League of Texas kicks off the morning with a discussion on Writing about the Lone Star State that features Stacey Swann, James Wade & Kimberly Garza. Bookending the festival is a special tribute to the writing of Larry McMurtry, with literary luminaries Stephen Harrigan, Douglas Swanson, Sherry Kafka Wagner and WK “Kip” Stratton. This panel, sponsored by Bending Branch Winery, will be moderated by George Getschow, editor of the upcoming book of essays on McMurtry, Pastures of an Empty Page. Getshow is also the director of the Archer City Writers’ Workshops.
In addition to these panels, Conservationist Davis Hillis will be on hand to discuss Armadillos to Ziziphus: A Naturalist in the Texas Hill Country; Cindy Bonner and Jo-Ann Power will talk about their experiences with women & war; and our local historians’ panel features moderator Kathryn Adam-Hurst, along with Dan Gelo, Hoppy Hopkins, Bryden Moon and Chris Wickham.
New and different this year is our headlining panel featuring popular middle grade author Stuart Gibbs. Gibbs is the New York Times bestselling author of the Charlie Thorne series, FunJungle series, Moon Base Alpha series, Once Upon a Tim series, and Spy School series. He has written screenplays, worked on a variety of animated films, developed TV shows, been a newspaper columnist, and researched capybaras (the world’s largest rodents). No matter your age, Gibbs’ panel is a guaranteed good time!
Sponsors of this year’s festival include Frost Bank, H-E-B, Kay & Bryden Moon, Susan & Skipper Nelson, Friends of the Boerne Public Library, Boerne Public Library Foundation, Bandera Electric Cooperative, Bending Branch Winery & The Deckle Edge.
